MODESTO – It’s not a question of whether there’s a nursery in Modesto that can cater to all of your gardening needs.

It’s just a question of which one.

As late April storms roll across Northern California for one last healthy soaking before the May growing season fully begins, people in the South County are more than likely looking for the places they can go to outfit their homes, gardens and planters with the delightful spring mixes that blossom into something beautiful for those outdoor patio nights in the summer.

Whether you’re looking for trees, shrubs, herbs or flowers, a handful of full-service nurseries existing in the Modesto area to serve the green thumbs of the community that are looking for quality plantables from knowledgeable staff that are up to date on trends and methods.

Here are some of the largest and most popular:

*Westurf Nursery – The first thing you see when you approach the Westurf Nursery on Claus Road is the giant water tower sitting behind the sprawling complex. It’s rustic, but it serves a purpose – delivering the water necessary to supply Modesto’s largest supplier of sod and one of the premier nurseries that supply people throughout Stanislaus County with the things needed to make their gardens flourish. The spot, which boasts hard to find plants in addition to popular ones, is active with participants of the Modesto Garden Club and representatives from the nursery have even traveled to Manteca to speak to the Manteca Garden Club at their group events. Workshops are held almost every weekend to help supply green thumbs with new tools and techniques and events are held every year – like the egg hunt that was held around Easter and an art show in May. 1612 Claus Road, Modesto.

*Morris Nursery – This Riverbank spot has been serving gardeners for years, and offers far more than just your basic run-of-the-mill nursery services. For those wanting more than just plants and flowers to drop into the ground, Morris Nursery offers a full-service landscape consultant that can help overhaul just about any space and draw up a custom plan that would work best for the barren patch you’ve been neglecting for three seasons. Whether it’s something that’s low maintenance or easy on water – a popular trend in the throes of California’s worst drought in four decades – they’ve got something in mind that would work for you.
