Adelante Continuation High School did not have a traditional graduation ceremony, similar to many other schools throughout the country. However, Principal Ed Vaca and school staff did not want this accomplishment to be sizzled due to the pandemic. To celebrate the class of 2020 the staff purchased graduation signs and placed them on the senior’s front lawns at their homes and when they picked up their official diplomas they had a photo opportunity.

“We will have an official graduation as soon as we can,” said Vaca. “We are definitely proud of our 34 graduates and looking forward to the rest of our students coming back in August.”

What the 2020-21 school year will look like is undetermined at this time but Riverbank Unified School District is hopeful that students will be able to return to school campuses. The end of the 2019-20 school year is officially over and although the pandemic brought some challenges, teachers and students quickly adapted to the situation.

“The distance learning that our students had to participate in was challenging for our school,” stated Vaca. “Several students fully participated and enjoyed the distance learning. Most of the comments we received from students were that they missed their teachers and being together at a school site. We hope that what we learned from this event and we can be better prepared into the fall if we have a hybrid of some kind of distant learning.”
