Riverbank Unified School District and C.A.S.A. del Rio Family Resource Center will host a Lights on Afterschool Celebration on Friday, Oct. 21 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at California Avenue Elementary, 3800 California Avenue. There will be games, food, live entertainment, a DJ, facepainting, and resource booths.

Last week at the Riverbank City Council Meeting Mayor Richard O’Brien presented Program/Grant Manager Armando Nunez a proclamation for Lights on Afterschool. Along with providing a safe environment for students while they wait for pickup from school the Afterschool programs provide extra learning like science, arts, and other activities. The proclamation noted that Afterschool programs support working families, enriched learning experiences to help youth, and help build stronger communities.

“Riverbank Unified School District, Project ACTION, Afterschool Care Together In Our Neighborhoods, is recognized in our schools and community as a fundamental Afterschool Program dedicated to providing extracurricular academic and recreational opportunities for student enrichment in a safe and nurturing environment so students may become diverse individuals,” stated O’Brien.

There were students at the council meeting that spoke to the council about their experience in the afterschool program and why they enjoy it. A student also passed out flyers for their upcoming celebration to everyone at the dais.

Riverbank Project A.C.T.I.O.N. (Afterschool Care Together In Our Neighborhoods) will be participating in the 21st Annual Lights On Afterschool event this Friday, Oct. 21. This is a free event.
