Donated Bus Tickets Help Dialysis Patient

Donated public bus tickets have allowed a dialysis patient to continue getting to his treatments, according to Riverbank Oakdale Transit Authority coordinator Donna Bridges.

"This is just one example of the many needs during these tough economic times. I want to take this opportunity to thank those groups and individuals that reach out to those less fortunate," she said.

On the morning of Oct. 21, she explained, she received a donation for ROTA from Riverbank Rotary Club and promptly went to City Hall to buy 14 books of bus tickets. Shortly after arriving back at her office, the ROTA dispatcher asked if she had any tickets because one of ROTA's regular users that goes to dialysis three times a week had not gone for six days because he didn't have any tickets or money left to ride the bus.

Apart from not having any tickets or money to pay for transportation, he didn't even have a phone, the dispatcher added, so she had asked the Sheriff's Department to check on him.

Thanks to Rotary's donation, Bridges was able to take the resident several books of tickets so he can ride the bus and continue his dialysis appointments.
