Downtown Market Wraps Successful Six-Week Run
TIE DYE
A new feature offered at the Downtown Market last week was the addition of a tie-dye station, where youngsters were taught the artistic skill first made popular in the 1960s. Last week on Tuesday, June 6, Riverbank’s Downtown Market neared the end of its six-week late spring/early summer run with a few more vendors, and a couple of new features for area youngsters.

The younger members in the crowd at the market were treated to the opportunity to learn how to make tie-dye articles. At the same time, a new vendor was selling tie-dyed garments, many reminiscent of the 1960s origin of the art style.

In addition, a new vendor called FacePainting by Liz provided her own style of art services to youngsters and adults alike. At least one young recipient had her artwork continue down her arms.

As usual, music was plentiful in the block of Santa Fe Street, between Third and Fourth streets, during the event, featuring singer/guitarist/songwriter Jaimie Byous with a return to the microphone.

The market was scheduled to complete its six-week run with the June 13 edition, so quiet will return to city streets for the rest of the summer on Tuesday evenings.

Coming up, however, are a number of activities. Many are planned with the youth in mind, including a Health and Safety Fair, along with a Bike Rodeo, scheduled for mid-July, a Youth Basketball Clinic hosted by the Riverbank High Basketball Program and the RHS Athletic Boosters organization.
