The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team, MAIT, was called to the scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident on Thursday morning, Dec. 14 in the Crossroads area of Riverbank.
According to authorities, the accident was reported at 7:45 a.m. at Westgate Drive and Saxon Way. Reports indicated two people – identified as a woman and her grandchild, were both struck by a vehicle driving through the area. Riverbank Police Services and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire officials responded to the scene and the county investigators were also requested.
Both victims were taken to area hospitals with significant, but believed to be non-life threatening, injuries.
Neighbors in the area voiced concerns that drivers often exceed the speed limit through that portion of the community and suggested the city might want to look into traffic calming measures.
