Several Riverbank Bruin tennis players continued their season, playing at the Section Individual Tournament, hosted May 18 and 19 at Oak Park in Stockton.
Nathalie Garcia was runner up in the girls singles competition.
“That is the highest place in singles a Riverbank player has accomplished,” said head coach Bruce Edwards. “Many of her opponents have been taking private lessons since they were very young. Nathalie started tennis as a freshman and never had private lessons.”
Garcia lost in the final round to an opponent from Colfax.
“Nathalie won the most games against her in the tournament and enjoyed the challenge,” Edwards added.
Riverbank also had a girls doubles team in the Section event, with Isa Fernandez and Noemy Torres ultimately placing third; they lost to eventual runner up Ripon and defeated Bear River during their tie on the court.
“Boys doubles Victor Jacobo and Omar Gomez placed fourth,” Edwards said, “losing to West Campus in the semifinals and then to Escalon in the match for third place, 10-7.”
With a second, third and fourth place overall finish for the Bruins at the Section tourney, Edwards said it was a great way to cap off their very successful season.
“Overall Riverbank had the most qualifiers for the tournament and earned the most medals,” the coach said.
