Galaxy 12 Theatres is marking its 10th anniversary in Riverbank.

The Rotary Club is inviting Chamber of Commerce members and the community to a celebration of the movie theater's birthday set for today, April 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2525 Patterson Road. Galaxy's CEO Frank Rimkus and local manager Nathan Paul are slated to speak.

The event will include a silent auction with proceeds to benefit a Riverbank organization. Auction items will include gift cards from local businesses as well as other donated items.

Built in Riverbank 10 years ago, Galaxy soon was offering tough competition to the Modesto theaters and quickly won over the local population for contributing to community life while using the latest technology to screen first class movies.

Galaxy Theatres' award-winning business philosophy of "More than just a Theatre" incorporates the best in movie entertainment with the company's philosophy of active community service.

"Being socially entrepreneurial builds strong bonds and goodwill in the communities we serve," said Rimkus.

Earning a No. 1 People's Choice Award in 2008, owners Rafe Cohen and Rimkus continue to support numerous area events for local schools as well as opening their foyer to city and chamber of commerce events and their parking lot to large gatherings like Beyond Earth Day and the Run for the Cheese.

"Galaxy Theatres LLC is a fully integrated movie theatre company, privately owned, that is ranked by size in the top 10 percent of the industry," according to the National Theater Association. The company currently has theaters in California, Nevada, Texas and Washington, according to its publicity department.

Formed in 1998, it focuses on developing and operating a number of high impact, state-of-the-art movie entertainment theaters in selected markets of the western United States.
