A late afternoon collision on Saturday, Aug. 13 resulted in fatal injuries to a 71-year-old Modesto woman and left two people with minor injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at Terminal Avenue and Plainview Road near Riverbank, just east of Roselle Avenue. Authorities said a 2015 Honda driven by a 73-year-old Modesto man was eastbound on Plainview and stopped at the posted stop sign at Terminal Avenue. A Toyota pick-up southbound on Terminal was approaching the intersection at an undetermined speed when the Honda pulled out into the intersection in front of the pick-up. The Toyota struck the left side of the Honda and both vehicles came to rest in a brushy area southeast of the intersection.

The right front passenger in the Honda, identified as Urmila Ram, 71, of Modesto sustained major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where she succumbed to those injuries. Both drivers had only minor injuries and refused transport to a hospital.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a contributing factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
