A heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect through 11 p.m. Sunday throughout the region. Building high pressure will result in well above normal temperatures this weekend.

Temperatures are predicted to reach highs of 100 to 109 degrees, with overnight lows ranging from 67 to 82.

Impacts can include: heat exhaustion and heat stroke can occur due to prolonged exposure to hot temperatures. People most vulnerable include those who are spending lots of time outdoors, those who do not have air conditioning, young children, the elderly, and those with chronic ailments. Residents are advised to take precautionary/preparedness actions.

A Heat Advisory means a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected and will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid direct sunlight if possible, stay in an air-conditioned rooms, and check up on outdoor pets and those more sensitive to heat such as the elderly and young children. Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

Cooler weather is expected early next week.
