New Gym Under Cost

Riverbank school trustees got a pleasant surprise at their recent meeting. The new Riverbank High Gym is turning out cheaper than expected.

A sum of $381,883 that the district had set aside for the usual construction contingencies went unused and change order four (the last change order) represented a $363,395 decrease in the guaranteed maximum price promised by the contractor, trustees learned on May 5.

Contractor CT Brayton & Sons of Escalon informed them it was cutting its original construction contract price of $11.2 million first by $4,786 for four previous change orders and now by $363,395 to make the final cost $10.9 million.

Usually, change orders add to the cost. Trustees accepted this decrease quickly and with smiles on their faces.

This was the last change order for the building that is now finished and in use. The order was accompanied by the formal notice of completion.
