New Recreation Director Tapped By City Council
Rec 1122
Michael Patton attended the Tuesday, Nov. 14 Riverbank City Council meeting via Zoom conferencing, available for any last-minute questions the mayor or council might have had ahead of a vote to approve his employment as the city’s new Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. His official start date is Dec. 4.

Riverbank City Council members have approved the hiring of a new director for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. The selection was made at the Nov. 14 council meeting.

Michael Patton – attending the meeting via an online appearance – has held a similar position in Ephraim, Utah. He is scheduled to start his new position here on Monday, Dec. 4. Patton takes over the position previously held by Sue Fitzpatrick, who, after 20 years in Riverbank, retired back in September.

Patton holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management from Brigham Young University and a Master of Public Administration from Idaho State University. He and his family are looking forward to relocating to California, as they will be closer to his and his spouse’s family, according to city administrators.

The council approved the hiring for a three-year term by a unanimous vote at their mid-November session. The move will be reviewed and evaluated each year in December.
