The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 10 through Monday, Oct. 16. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, OCT. 16
Battalion 2: Crews trained in their first due FMA, Fire Management Area.
Battalion 5: 6:50 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Engine 26, and BC5 responded to the 10000 block of 26-Mile Road for a vehicle accident with reported pin in. Upon arrival there was a vehicle in a pasture that had rolled over and was on its roof; the driver of the vehicle was out of the vehicle and stated that they were the only occupant of the vehicle. The driver refused medical care and the responding balance was cancelled.
Battalion Chief 5 conducted joint response protocol training with Oakdale Police Department.
2:48 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to the 10000 block of Rio Sombra Drive for a vehicle accident with injuries involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival crews located one motorcyclist down in the roadway and began patient care. The motorcyclist was an immediate patient and was transported to a local hospital.
SUNDAY, OCT. 15
Battalion 2: Quint 22 and Battalion 2 trained with the Battalion 3 companies on a residential fire attack with a first-due truck or quint.
Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 participated in an Active Shooter Training with Oakdale Police Department at Magnolia Elementary School in Oakdale.
SATURDAY, OCT. 14
Battalion 2: The first day of the Wine and Cheese Festival in Riverbank was a big success. There were no calls for service related to the event. Engine 26’s crew worked with the sheriff’s office to prepare for any incidents in the festival area.
Battalion 5: Crews attended multicompany drills at the RFTC.
3:27 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Escalon Fire and BC1 responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Lon Dale Road. Engine 28 arrived to find two vehicles involved and began to investigate for injuries. Two patients were treated and transported from the scene to local emergency rooms. CHP investigating.
FRIDAY, OCT. 13
Battalion 2: Engine 21 and Battalion 2 attended the Active Shooter Drill at Doctors Medical Center.
Quint 22 and BC2 reviewed fire attack policies.
Engine 23 and Quint 22 trained on Paratech Rescue struts.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 performed Company level training.
Engine 28 attended Oakdale Community Block party.
Battalion 5 attended Active Shooter Drill in Battalion 1 area.
THURSDAY, OCT. 12
Battalion 2: 7:02 a.m. – Engine 23, Q22 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident on Milnes at Albers Road. Two vehicles involved each only occupied by a driver. Both parties were delayed, one released against medical advice, AMA’d.
1:43 p.m. – Engine 26, B27 and BC2 responded to the 4300 block of Mesa for a vegetation fire. On arrival an overhead wire had been pulled down and started a small vegetation fire in a heavily grazed pasture. B27 was cancelled, E26 was able to pick up the fire quickly. PG&E was called and took care of the power line.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Companies trained on EMS protocols.
Battalion 5 attended the Oakdale Fire District meeting.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 11
Battalion 2: 1:04 p.m. – Engine 26 and BC2 responded to a wire down and arcing on Topeka near Jackson. A branch fell cutting a transmission line that hit the ground and did arc. PG&E arrived to cut the power and took over the scene.
4 p.m. – Engine 9, G21/WT21, G23/WT23, Grass 27/WT27 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to the intersection of Wellsford and Parker for a grass fire. E9 arrived and reported a small grass fire bumping into a disced field. E9 and both 23 units were able to handle, all others were canceled.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.
Companies trained on seven-month test preparation.
Battalion 5 attended the Valley Home MAC meeting.
5:10 p.m. – Engine 7, B12, B28, G21/W21 and BC2 responded to a vegetation fire in the 300 block of Claratina. E7 arrived and reported one acre burning against the wind with a slow rate of spread. B12 assisted with the left flank, G21 with the right. B28 was cancelled. Crews remained on scene for one hour mopping up.
5:30 p.m. – While returning from another call, Brush 28 came upon a vegetation fire at High and Fifth streets in Riverbank. Firefighters contained the fire to a quarter-acre of river bottom.
6:41 p.m. – Engine 27 to West F Street and Bryan for a public assist. Firefighters assisted City of Oakdale and OPD with securing a sheared fire hydrant after a non-injury accident.
TUESDAY, OCT. 10
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 conducted a training with the Stanislaus County Sherriff’s Department, focusing on joint operations at emergency scenes.
Battalion 5: 4:53 p.m. – Modesto E5, B12, E6, WT6, Stanislaus G21 and Modesto BC5 responded to the 300 block of Claratina Avenue for reports of a vegetation fire. E5 arrived on scene and found a vegetation fire in an open field with one building threatened. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire with no damage to the structures nearby. The fire was approximately three acres in size.
