The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 11 through Monday, Feb. 17. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, FEB. 17
The MST Firefighter Academy continued training (fire attack scenarios) at the Regional Fire Training Center.
MST Engineer Academy continued week two of training evolutions.
Battalion 2: Crews completed Monday equipment checks across the battalion today.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 conducted their weekly Monday apparatus checks to ensure all equipment was in good working order to respond to all emergencies.
SUNDAY, FEB. 16
Battalion 2: Water Rescue Boat quarterly training took place on the Tuolumne River at the Basso Bridge launch ramp. Crews discussed the upcoming season while practicing skills.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews participated in water rescue and boat operator training instruction on the Tuolumne River.
SATURDAY, FEB. 15
MST truck companies practiced ventilating residential structures from their aerial ladders at their quarterly training.
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Station 26 completed business inspections.
Battalion 2 crews trained in engine company operations.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance.
Crews trained in their respective FMA’s for Company Level Drill Day.
Battalion 5 checked all boat launch sites in the Oakdale area.
Engine 28 pre fire planned the Oakdale Airport.
Engine 3, Engine 6 and Battalion 5 trained on multi-alarm incidents to prepare for the upcoming promotional exam.
FRIDAY, FEB. 14
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews reviewed their Emergency Medical Treatment guidelines.
Quint 22 trained in aerial operations.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Crews conducted company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Engine 9, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 trained on greater alarm incidents for upcoming BC promotional exam.
Boat 29 trained on boat operations on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.
THURSDAY, FEB. 13
The MST new hire academy trained on garage fire tactics and hose line placement.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Radio maintenance and programming was completed.
2:33 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, and Battalion 5 to Milton Road and Highway 4 for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene with one vehicle off the roadway. One patient was treated and transported for minor injuries.
9:31 p.m. – Engine 28 to East H Street for a medical aid. Firefighters and Medics arrived on scene to find the patient in respiratory arrest. ALS care was immediately started, and crews began assisted ventilations. The patient was packaged and transported with two Firefighters on board to a local hospital.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 12
The MST academy continued with hose training and evolutions at Station 17.
Battalion 2: A-Shift started the quarterly rotations of water rescue training on the Tuolumne River at Basso Bridge. WR 21 was the lead instructor, and Stations 2, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, and 29 all rotated through the training.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews rotated through radio maintenance and programming at Station 15.
TUESDAY, FEB. 11
MST Firefighter Academy continued training evolutions at Fire Station 32.
MST Engineer Academy continued with day two of training including cone course driving and fleet service overview.
Battalion 2: Quint 22 participated in auto extrication training with other MST resources.
5:02 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Truck 5 and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the city of Riverbank for a report of a kitchen fire. Units arrived on scene and found a fire that started on the stove and had started to burn the cabinets. The occupants were able to extinguish the fire. Crews checked for any extension and then cleared the call.
Battalion 5: 1:22 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 108 at Mesa Drive in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene to find a large box truck that had hit two cows that were in the roadway. The driver wasn’t injured. Both cows had major injuries.
Engine 28 assisted the Oakdale High School Fire Science Class.
