The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 6 through Monday, May 12. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, MAY 12
Battalion 2: Crews completed Monday apparatus inspections across the battalion.
Company level training occurred with our newest members that rode along today across the battalion.
Companies rotated through quarterly drivers training at the RFTC.
Battalion 5: Crews participated in company level training.
Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment checks along with station maintenance, and completed assignments in target solutions.
SUNDAY, MAY 11
Battalion 2: Water Rescue 21 and 24 trained at the Turlock Lake inlet completing sign offs for boat operators.
Battalion 5: Boat 29 conducted training on the Stanislaus River in anticipation of the busy usage of the waterway this summer.
5:57 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29 and BC5 were dispatched to a solo vehicle accident on eastbound Highway 108 near Lancaster Road. Crews arrived on scene to find a car that had lost control and left the roadway. The vehicle hit a large tree head-on which caused the tree to break in half and partially block the roadway. The car then burst into flames, starting a vegetation fire. A passerby stopped and assisted the male driver from the burning car. He was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance with moderate injuries. CHP is investigating.
SATURDAY, MAY 10
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance; performed company level training in their respective FMA’s; and completed Target Solutions assignments.
Battalion 5 Companies rotated through Quarterly Drivers Training at the RFTC.
Water Rescue 28 and Water Rescue 29 trained on the Stanislaus River focusing on boat operations and rescue techniques.
1:19 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to the report of a vegetation fire at Knox Road and Townhill Avenue. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find a small vegetation fire. E28 was able to quickly contain the fire and limited any fire spread.
1:45 p.m. – Engine 9 and Engine 26 responded to the report of a subject who was ALOC after being hit in the head by a baseball. Due to the nature of the injury and age of the patient it was determined to fly the patient, and air ambulance was requested. E9 provided patient care and E26 set up the LZ. The patient was flown to a nearby trauma center for evaluation.
1:57 p.m. – Water Rescue 29, WR28, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a report of a river rescue behind the 17000 block of Cemetery Road on the Stanislaus River. Boat 29 was able to quickly locate the two individuals that were thrown from their kayak. Boat 29 was also able to locate their kayak and bring it back to shore.
3:56 p.m. – WR29, WR26, Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a water rescue at Orange Blossom Recreation area. Crews arrived on scene and contacted the reporting party to determine a possible location. With the assistance of SO Air 101 overhead crews were able to quickly locate the victim upriver from the recreation area. The victim was unharmed and was able to safely exit off the river’s edge.
FRIDAY, MAY 9
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews attended quarterly drivers training at Station 17.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 trained on hose estimations, stretches and nozzle techniques.
10:44 a.m. – Engine 23, WR28, WR26 and Battalion 5 responded for a water rescue on the Stanislaus River in the 10400 Block of Fox Meadow Court. WR28 arrived on scene and launched from Orange Blossom Recreation Area. Crews were able to locate the subjects who were unharmed and refused medical care. The subjects were brought back to safety and all units cleared.
3:58 p.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26, Truck 1 and Battalion 5 responded to a potential structure fire on Donner Trail in Riverbank. Engine 7 arrived on scene with nothing showing. Crews located a malfunctioning water heater and the gas was secured to the unit. Engine 7 remained on scene for PG&E and the balance of the response was cancelled.
THURSDAY, MAY 8
Battalion 2: Crews trained in their first due areas with the recruit firefighters.
The Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors held a workshop at Station 26. During the workshop, they saw our new Hi-tech Type 1 engine. The crew also demonstrated our ALS skills, highlighting the recent grant that allowed us to send 11 of our members to the Paramedic school, enhancing the EMS services we provide to the community.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus, equipment, and station maintenance.
Companies trained on SCBA use and buddy breathing.
Companies completed rotations through annual RT-130 wildland training at Woodward Reservoir. Training focused on mobile fire attack, progressive hose lays, communication, fire shelters and emergency procedures.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 7
Battalion 2: Crews trained in their first due areas with the recruit firefighters.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus, equipment and station maintenance.
Engine 29 conducted apparatus checks and yard maintenance at Station 30.
TUESDAY, MAY 6
Battalion 2: Stanislaus Regional 911 and the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors recognized and thanked Melissa Parikh, Shaun Porter, and Rebecca Leonardo for 25 years of dedicated service to the citizens and first responders of Stanislaus County. They are the backbone of SR911 and work behind the scenes, keeping everything running. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
Quint 22 trained with their recruit firefighter on aerial operations.
4:28 p.m. – Brush 24, Brush 23, Grass 21, and Battalion 5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 500 block of Eucalyptus Avenue. Brush 28 arrived on scene to roughly one-eighth of an acre of grass on fire in the back yard of a residence and established the Eucalyptus IC. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire holding it to a quarter of an acre and prevent spread to any structures. Crews remained on scene for roughly an hour for mop up.
5:19 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, Quint 22, Engine 3, Engine 9, Engine 11, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of a working structure fire on E Street in Waterford. Engine 27 arrived on scene with light smoke coming from a single-story residence. Upon investigation they found an exterior fire that had extended into the attic space of the residence. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the exterior fire and held it to minimal damage to the attic space. Companies remained on scene for roughly 90 minutes for overhaul.

BC5 attended the monthly command staff meeting at Admin.
5:20 p.m. – Engines 7, 26, and BC2 were dispatched for a vehicle accident at Claribel and Langworth. BC2 was the first to arrive with Oak Valley on scene. There was one minor injury; the balance of the response was canceled.
