It is with great sadness that we announce that Ed Looper, Sr., passed away on June 16, 2022.

Ed was born in Modesto and raised in Oakdale, where he attended Oakdale High School and met his wife, Judy. Upon graduating, he attended Modesto Junior College, where he continued to run track. He and his brother Jearl drove a school bus for other students that attended MJC. He also served in the Army for two years, including serving as a tower guard at the military prison at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Sacramento State University, he taught woodworking, and coached basketball for the seventh graders at Magnolia School in Oakdale. He drove trucks during the summers for the family trucking business with his father and brother, and eventually resigned from teaching and drove trucks full-time. He also coached his three sons in little league baseball in Oakdale for several years. After his retirement, he traveled extensively in Europe.

The Oakdale Mustangs held a special place in Ed’s heart. He was a loyal fan and often could be seen in the stands at the Corral on Friday nights cheering on the football team. Ed was also a fan of Bay area teams, including the Giants, 49ers, and the Warriors. Ed was preceded in death by his wife Judy Looper, infant daughter Laurie Looper, parents Jearl and Christine Looper and his brother Jearl Looper, Jr. He is survived by his three sons, Ed, Jr., Jamie (Karen), Tony (Jill), his four grandchildren, Doran (Rachelle) Looper, Aubeni Looper, Jeremy Looper, Justyne Looper, and his longtime companion, Linda Green.

Private burial.
