Francisco Silveira Vargas, 84, died Friday, Sept. 5 at his Riverbank home after a long illness.

Mr. Vargas was a native of Portugal and brought his wife and family to the United States in 1963. He lived in Riverbank 24 years and retired there.

He was a milker at Toste & Pacheco Dairy for 23 years.

He was a member of Luso-American and St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church, Riverbank.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Vargas of Riverbank; children, Joe (Patti) Vargas and Mary (Ken) Sanborn, all of Oakdale, and Carlos Vargas of Riverbank; sister, Amelia Oliveira of Idaho; and grandchildren, Jessica Gladney and Amanda Vargas, and Teresa and Travis Sanborn.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at St. Frances of Rome Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at the church. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Escalon.

Oakdale-Riverbank Memorial Chapels in charge of arrangements.
