This past weekend Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) members had a voucher and pet adoption event where a few pets found their forever homes. OSPA Vice President Debi Scoles expressed that they had some success at the Sept. 7 event.

“We took Harpo, a wonderful American Staffordshire, to Petco,” said Scoles. “He is such a loving dog and he made friends with everyone. He didn’t get adopted that day but a wonderful family came to the shelter on Sunday and adopted him. We also talked to a very nice lady who came in wanting a German Shepherd. We had a beautiful one, Shasta, at the shelter so I showed her the photos and gave her the info. She went to the shelter on Sunday to meet her and it was love at first sight. Shasta will pretty much be a full time companion to this lady.”

Although they do not always have a lot of pets available at the voucher/adoption events at Petco, Scoles explained that they do stir up excitement for the pets at the shelter and are able to share that information with those that attend the event.

“Sometimes we can’t take more than one (adoptable pet) because of a shortage of volunteers available that day, which was our case on Saturday,” added Scoles. “Volunteers took three adult cats to Oakdale Feed and Seed but there were no takers so they are still available. The shelter has lots of medium to large dogs right now, with only one small. Getting the two large ones adopted Sunday helps.”

For the first time Scoles will be fostering kittens for the shelter. She has four kittens in her care that are about five weeks old. They arrived at the shelter at four weeks and weighed under two pounds. They now have a little play structure in their kennel that Debi’s husband Al made, which she stated they love.
