Boxes to collect toys and gifts are appearing all over Riverbank as the city heads toward a Christmas distribution of both food and toys at the Riverbank Community Center on Dec. 22.
Toy collection boxes are located at city hall, the fire station, the sheriff's office, many churches and most schools. Donations of food or the money to purchase it are needed.
The city is trying to coordinate the work of many organizations such as St. Vincent De Paul at the St. Frances Catholic Church, Christian Food Sharing, Riverbank Rotary Club, Casa Del Rio, Sheriff's Team Of Active Retired Seniors, Riverbank Oakdale Transit Authority and various churches to hold one large giveaway, said Norma Torres-Manriquez at City Hall.
The need is immense, she added. Stockton and Modesto have held food distribution events where people started lining up the night before to obtain a Thanksgiving turkey.
