Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 13.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.26/gallon as of Monday, April 29. That’s according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 35.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 72.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 2.9 cents in the last week and stands at $3.98 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.49/gallon while the most expensive was $5.99, a difference of $1.50/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.34 while the highest was $8.55, a difference of $4.21/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.63/gallon. The national average is up 8.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 4.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.30/gallon, down 4.6 cents from $5.35; Oakland - $5.47, down 6.8 cents per gallon from $5.54; and San Jose - $5.44/gallon, down 6.9 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.51/gallon.

“With more confidence every day, it appears the spring top is in: average gas prices have started to cool off in many areas. For now, few Americans need to worry that gas prices are going to skyrocket; the risk appears to be behind us, with relief coming in the weeks ahead,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto average at $5.28 on April 29, 2022 and the highest U.S. average of $4.16 on that same date. Lowest Modesto price was $2.48 per gallon on April 29, 2020 and the lowest U.S price of $1.75 per gallon on the same date.
