Riverbank High varsity football coach Aaron Thurman will take to the gridiron once again this week in preparation for the 18th Annual North/South Small Schools All Star Football Game, scheduled this year at RHS.

Thurman and his staff will coach the North squad and Bruin graduates Jose Moreno and Michael Belloumini for the Friday, July 2 event that will pit top graduates from five different leagues against each other.

The best of the Trans-Valley League, Western Athletic Conference, Mother Lode League, Southern League and Harvest Christian League will be in attendance, practicing this weekend and all of next week for the annual contest.

"My goal is (to) showcase these individuals' talent and put out an entertaining, fun game," game coordinator Thurman said. "I have had the opportunity to talk to all of the players on the North and they have a unanimous level of excitement for this game."

Saturday's noon practice at Riverbank High will mark the first organized preparation for Thurman's North squad. The team will practice Monday to Thursday of next week as well at 4 p.m.

Last year, Thurman saw RHS graduate Donovan Wallace take on small school athletes in Waterford for the 17th installment of the contest. This year, the game will be played in Riverbank and raise money for the Bruin football program.

Moreno (defensive end/running back) and Belloumini (wide receiver/defensive back) will have the opportunity to play in one last game under the lights at Riverbank's Angelo Novi Field.

The July 2 contest will begin at 7 p.m.
