After making a major statement for the program with a recent huge Trans-Valley League victory over Ripon Christian, the Riverbank Bruins took a step in the wrong direction after losing back-to-back games in their latest TVL action.

The Bruins could do nothing to keep their mojo working, running into a tough Hughson High team that handled the Bruins convincingly in a 23-0 blowout.

Riverbank was unable to get anything going against the Huskies starter Archie Quay, who was dominant through three innings of work, striking out a pair and not surrendering a hit to the Bruins.

Riverbank did put the humiliating loss behind them in a hurry, but another dominant hurler was on the other end waiting for the Bruins.

Ripon ace Michael Conway cruised to victory with a complete game shutout over the Bruins, going seven innings on Friday and holding the Bruins to just one hit, not allowing a base runner past second base.

The Indians needed the victory after dropping consecutive games to Hughson and Escalon before clashing with the Bruins.

Riverbank's league grind surely will not be getting any easier as the Escalon Cougars are next on the schedule for an April 1 contest at home. The Cougars remain undefeated on the season and have not seen a legitimate test thus far through the TVL campaign.

Riverbank will open a two-game set with the Cougars when they host Escalon for the first of two installments. Escalon will then play host to Riverbank on Friday, April 3 for the two squads' final meeting of the TVL season.

Both contests are scheduled for 4 p.m. starts.
