If there was a way Riverbank High head soccer coach wanted his team to open the Trans-Valley League season the team gave it to him with two stellar efforts to kick off league action.

Riverbank rolled over Modesto Christian and Ripon Christian to get things under way and get them under way in a hurry, solidifying their spot atop the TVL standings early on in the 2009 campaign.

The Bruins had little trouble disposing of the Crusaders of Modesto Christian, making the short drive to Salida and thrashing them 8-1 in a total team effort.

The Bruins got goals early and often, recording three in the first half and five more in the second 40 minutes to produce the blowout. Riverbank's Adrian Pantoja paced the squad with an impressive four-goal effort.

Teammates Hugo Calderon and Rafael Zamudio both chipped in goals, while teammate Francisco Sanchez recorded a pair.

Riverbank did not let up going into their second league contest, blasting the Ripon Christian Knights 4-0 to remain unbeaten in TVL action. The Bruins kicked off the contest with four first half goals, sealing the deal in the first 40 minutes of the contest.

Hugo Yepez got things going in a hurry with a pair of converted shots, while teammates Pantoja and Calderon both found the back of the net.

The Bruins will have their hands full as they continue along the TVL grind, hosting Escalon and making a trip to Ripon to take on the Indians on Sept. 23. Their contest against Escalon (Sept. 21, but results were not available at time of press) will shake up the foundation of the league in its first few games, as the teams met with identical 2-0 marks.

Riverbank will have to put together a quality performance against the Cougars, before heading to Ripon to take on a strong Indians squad, who have only tasted defeat once on the entire season.

Both contests are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. first whistles, with the Ripon contest happening at Mistlin Park in north Ripon.
