Getting some valuable court time before the start of Trans-Valley League play, Riverbank's Bruins took the court in Denair for a non-league match up on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Though they came up just a point short, 41-40, the Bruin varsity kept the pressure on the host Coyotes throughout the contest.

Denair took a 13-9 lead in the first quarter, then both squads had trouble finding the net in the second, with Riverbank putting in just three points and Denair five for an 18-12 Coyote lead at the half.

Riverbank came back to outscore the home team in each of the third and fourth quarters, but just couldn't quite get enough points on the board for the win.

Riverbank had 11 points in the third, 17 in the fourth, while Denair countered with eight in the third, 15 in the fourth.

Two Bruins were in double figures on the night, paced by Lucas Pope with 15 and Eric Paige with 10. The Bruins got to within a point with a 3-pointer, but time ran out on them. Denair capitalized on some free throws in the final minutes to take the win.

Both Riverbank's JV and freshman teams were victorious on the road in the Wednesday games.

The varsity Bruins were slated to travel to Hughson for a contest on Friday night, Dec. 21 but results were not available at press time.

This week, the JV and varsity teams are slated to suit up for the Oakdale Rotary Holiday Classic, a four-day tournament kicking off at Oakdale on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and running through Saturday, Dec. 29.

Varsity games will be played in the Oakdale High gym, with the JV games at Oakdale Junior High School. Teams participating, along with Riverbank and host Oakdale, are Escalon, Patterson, Ripon Christian and Calaveras, among others.
