The Riverbank High girls' varsity basketball team garnered some early season success to start the campaign, yet the squad is now looking to turn their ship around as they open the 2009 Trans-Valley League season.

Riverbank had no answer for a quality Calaveras team, dropping their contest against the Redskins 70-24 in recent action. The Lady Bruins were unable to get on track in the contest, forcing the squad into a sense of urgency as they open TVL play.

Riverbank will hold an advantage in its TVL openers, being as the Lady Bruins will be hosting the Ripon Christian Knights and Ripon Indians in back-to-back contests, but both squads will be anything except an easy victory.

Ripon Christian has compiled a winning home record over their non-league schedule and Ripon will undoubtedly remain as one of the league's top teams alongside the Modesto Christian Crusaders.

The Lady Bruins will have to take advantage of any opportunity either team leaves them, or they could very well continue their icy fall as the league schedule unfolds.

Riverbank will then open up its road TVL schedule when it makes the short trek to Escalon to take on the Lady Cougars. The Cougars will be no easy task either, using a full court press that has proved to be a task to handle during the team's home play over the preseason.

Issues have plagued the Lady Bruins over the past two weeks of the season and it will take a complete team effort for the ladies to turn their misfortunes around. Each player will have to find a way to complement each other, in turn, helping the team unify as one.

Riverbank knows what teammates it will take to carry them to victory in TVL action and it will be up to those players to step up and provide the leadership to the team.

The Lady Bruins will continue the TVL season on Thursday, Jan. 22 when they play host to the Ripon Indians, followed by their contest with Escalon Jan. 26. Both contests are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tip-offs.
