Playing first the top team in the league and then one of the weakest squads, both in one week, Bruin girls lost to Hilmar, 55-36, and defeated Hughson by 40-32 in varsity basketball.
Now 8-4 in league with two games left to go as of Monday, Riverbank expects to make the top eight teams of the 16, and reach the playoffs.
Bruin coach Scott Erickson said the Bruins played well against Hilmar, especially in the first and third quarters, even though they lost this game like their first encounter with Hilmar.
"We had a lot of turnovers and did not score many points, but we did a good job against their people. They have a couple of girls over six feet tall," he said.
Riverbank held Hilmar to a 12-12 tie in the first quarter; lost the second period, 16-6; yielded the third period, 15-14; and were outplayed, 12-4, in the last quarter.
Angela Lopez led the Bruin scoring with 14 points, followed by Megan Medrano with eight and Monica Cardenas, with five.
Although Riverbank romped to an easy win against Hughson on Thursday, Erickson said it was "another ugly game which we should have played better." Hughson has not won a league game this season.
"We had many open shots but we were not putting them in," he said. " Hughson has a couple of very good players but little else, and they gave us a run. We seem to play down to the weakest level."
Riverbank lost the first quarter, 6-5, then won or tied the remaining quarters 12-12, 14-11, and 9-9.
Medrano shot 11 points, Liza Mila, 10, and Sonia Naranjo, seven.
The Bruins played Livingston on Tuesday, and they will face Ripon in the last league game tomorrow.
