Riverbank High School’s varsity Bruin football team kicked off its 2022 season, both literally and figuratively, this past Friday, hosting Millennium High School on Friday, Aug. 19, in a non-league scrimmage contest.
Working out their kinks, RHS players held up well, with the game starting warm, before sundown, but fell to the Falcons, 13-0.
High points were a play that saw the Bruins block an extra point attempt, and also racking up a 30-plus yard run on offense in the third quarter.
The game capped a day of activity at the high school, with the traditional Senior Sunrise held beginning at 6 a.m., ceremonially starting up the Class of 2023’s last year of school. Their year will similarly end with Senior Sunset in May.
Riverbank next travels to Delhi this Friday, Aug. 26 and then head to Denair the next week, for both JV and varsity games.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
The weekend also saw the start of girls volleyball pre-season, with a trip to Newman on Saturday, to participate in the Orestimba varsity tournament.
The girls lost both their matches, to Bret Harte High School from Angels Camp, 2-0, and to Modesto High. 2-0.
They were to host Johansen High from Modesto in the Foundation Game, also for the varsity, on Monday this week, then freshman, JV and varsity games were scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 23, hosting Central Valley High from Ceres.
They won’t be back on the home court until Sep. 1.
Girls Golf
Lady Bruin golfers were to start their season on Tuesday, Aug. 23, hosting Gustine on the home course, the Escalon Golf Course, then will take on Hilmar on Thursday, Aug. 25, also at home.
Co-Ed Cross Country
Bruin runners will be competing in a scrimmage race at Frogtown in Angels Camp, on Aug. 30 to begin their season.
