There was lots of activity on the fields, courts and diamonds of Riverbank athletics during the past week. With mostly sunny skies, teams had the chance to take part in a number of contests.

Co-Ed Track & Field

The week wrapped up on campus with Riverbank hosting the Stanislaus County Meet in the Angelo Novi Stadium on Friday, March 8. The meet was so busy that there were multiple heats in nearly every event. And an early one set a new record.

Lady Bruin sophomore Maya Guzman competed in a number of events on Friday, starting with the triple jump, held on the far side of the track, where the visiting football team would be during the gridiron season.

Competing in the third run in her turn, Guzman set a school record, at 34-feet, 9¾-inches. She also came in third in the long jump a little later, then was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed third, and finished eighth individually in the 300-meter hurdles.

The track and field Bruins are scheduled to take part in the Trans-Valley League Relays at Hughson on Thursday, March 14.

Lady Bruin Softball

Riverbank girls had a busy week, with the four-day Rainbow Tournament, hosted at nearby Rainbow Fields, closing things out over the weekend. It was an extraordinary run of games, that started with a massive win on Wednesday, against McNair of Stockton, to start off the series.

The game was essentially over in the second inning, when the Lady Bruins led 18-0, and they finished with the 24-0 win after four innings, when the 10-run rule took effect. That evening, they came back with an 11-1 victory over the Lady Bears of Summerville in Tuolumne County, also in a shortened five-inning game.

They had two games to close out the tournament on Saturday, beating Edison High of Stockton, 8-1, and finally, Bear Creek High of Stockton, 4-1.

In aggregate, the Lady Bruins outscored their tournament opponents 47-3 last week, already seeming to hit their stride in the preseason series.

Softball was to play at Bret Harte on Monday and is scheduled to travel to Tracy to take on Kimball High on March 13.

Bruin Baseball

It wasn’t as successful a week on the baseball diamond, as the Bruin boys lost two games last week. They fell 4-2 at Delhi on Tuesday, March 5, and at Summerville by a lopsided score on Thursday, March 7. They are scheduled to play at Hughson to open Trans-Valley League play on March 13 and host Hughson on Thursday, March 14.

Bruin Volleyball

Riverbank’s varsity volleyball boys fell to Waterford, 3-1, on the home court on Tuesday, March 5. They were set to play at Delhi on March 12 and host Gustine in a Thursday night game, March 14 at 6 p.m.

Co-Ed Bruin Tennis

The tennis team is in the midst of a busy week. They were to be on the road for Trans-Valley League action Tuesday, March 12 at Escalon and will be home to host Hughson on March 13, then travel to Ripon on Thursday, March 14.
