JV Girls Pace Game, But Go Down To Patterson

A three-pointer by Patterson that found the basket at the buzzer spoiled Riverbank's chances of winning junior varsity girls basketball game on Thursday.

Riverbank led the first quarter, 16-8; tied the second, 4-4; and gave up the third, 14-6, so the two teams were tied 26-26 going into the last quarter.

"We were in control until the fourth quarter," said Bruin coach Robert Mayfield. "We squandered an eight point lead in the last quarter. We were down by two points, got ahead on a three pointer, then they did the same."

Kelly Clancey was high scorer for Riverbank with 11 points, while Irene Castillo had 10 and Heather Medrano, seven.

In the previous away game against Ripon, the Bruins were defeated, 38-25.

They trailed all the way in scoring by quarters, which went 10-6, 4-2, 12-9 and 12-8.

Lead scorer was again Clancey, with 12 points, and Melissa Rodriguez had nine points.

"This was one of our worst efforts," said Mayfield. "We just lowered our level of play. We had no intensity."
