One dugout felt that they finally got the big hit and the other dugout felt they just ran out of time and this evil twist played out on the Riverbank High softball team in a pair of one-run losses in recent league action.

The Lady Bruins played as tough and solid as they have at any point during the season, yet fate left the Riverbank squad still in search of its second Trans-Valley League win. A 3-2 loss to Hughson and a 6-5 loss to the Modesto Christian Crusaders were the tough matches for Riverbank this week.

Riverbank answered a Hughson run in the second inning with a two-spot of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Riverbank's lead would last until the sixth inning when Hughson plated its second run to tie things up at two apiece.

The two clubs played through a scoreless seventh inning, but the eighth and final inning spelled a different story for the Lady Bruins. Hughson would go on to add a run in their half of the eighth, providing just enough wiggle room to sneak out of Riverbank with their third consecutive TVL win.

Riverbank's one-run loss seemingly introduced the squad to a newfound agony, as the extra-inning affair also struck Riverbank in its contest against the Crusaders.

Unlike in their one-run loss to Hughson, the Lady Bruins trailed by multiple runs against the Crusaders, making mounting a comeback that more difficult. Riverbank had to claw its way back into the contest after spotting Modesto Christian a 5-2 lead halfway through the game.

Riverbank showed a glimpse of resiliency that the squad has been in search of for the season, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie things up and give the squad a shot in bonus play, but that simply would not be the case.

The two teams played a scoreless eighth frame, but Riverbank could not keep the Crusaders off of the scoreboard in the ninth inning, watching as an empty final at bat left the squad gripping with back-to-back heartbreaking losses.

Riverbank will look to bounce back immediately when they play host to the Ripon Indians (April 9) before getting some time off during the Spring Break holiday. The Lady Bruins' battle with Ripon High will get under way at 4 p.m.
