During hurried efforts to catch up to the visiting Summerville team this past Wednesday, the Lady Bruin varsity girls basketball team took an opportunity to watch a teammate make her shot at the end of the game.

Riverbank was down by more than 20 points, but, with about a minute left on the clock, coach Logan Nabors took time to send in sophomore athlete Serena McCann, a special needs student, to take her shot.

With her family cheering her on, McCann waited under the Bruin basket, then she received a pass as the ball was brought into play following a Summerville basket.

Although visiting parents yelled to their players to look out for McCann, the Lady Bears appeared to be in on the play, since they didn’t press to prevent either the pass or the shot.

The crowd yelled its approval as the ball went up and into the basket.

McCann had made the next to last two-point bucket of the game for Riverbank, with Desiree Garnica, 10, putting the cap on scoring for the Lady Bruins just before the final buzzer.

Ironically, Garnica had made the first RHS basket of the game, as well.
