Mercado plays in All Star game

Newly graduated from Riverbank High School, where he was a heavy hitter on the Bruins baseball team, Adan Mercado played in the Modesto Sunrise Rotary All-Star Baseball Classic on Saturday.

Mercado played in the infield for the East side which lost 5-2 to the West side team.

Featuring the best junior and senior high school baseball players from the area, the game drew a crowd estimated at 1,000 people to Thurman Field in Modesto.

All 20 high schools in Stanislaus County were represented on the opposing teams.

Mercado's 2004 record with the RHS Bruins going into the All Star game was 68 times at bat, 31 runs, and 30 hits. He had seven doubles, five triples, two home runs and 18 RBIs and eight base on balls for an average of .441.

All proceeds from the annual game are donated back to the various schools baseball programs.
