Riverbank Cross Country One Stop From State Meet

With an entire season of training, competing, preparing and anxiousness accumulated up until this point, the Riverbank High cross country program will be sending both its boys and girls varsity teams to the Sac-Joaquin Section Meet at Folsom High School.

Riverbank High's dominance in recent seasons was obviously aided by the talents and effort of former Bruin German Fernandez, but with the state's most dominant runner off in another portion of the country at the collegiate level, Riverbank counted on its returning standouts to keep the tradition alive and well.

The Bruins closed out the Sub-Section meet in Angels Camp with a fifth place overall finish, advancing the squad into the section meet as one of the top-eight teams to compete in Angels Camp.

Riverbank will join Trans-Valley League foe Escalon (fourth place) in the next step toward a State Meet berth. The Bruins' combined team time left the team trailing only Christian Brothers, Bret Harte, Colfax and Escalon in team results.

Jacob Hodges continued his impressive season, finishing the course in 17:22 for the first Bruin in. Younger Hodges brother, Ben, followed Jacob in with a time of 17:51, leaving him 17 seconds ahead of third place Bruin finisher Alex Reyes.

Chris Nunez (18:21) and Aaron Ortiz (19:29) rounded out the top-5 runners for Riverbank at the meet.

The Lady Bruins were not to be outdone, recording a seventh place overall finish to advance into the Nov. 15 Section Meet.

Tayler Anderson paced the Lady Bruins once again with a time of 21:22, followed by teammate Lizzie Uscanga's time of 21:40. Riverbank also saw Natalia Herrera turn in a respectable time of 22:38, just in front of Lady Bruin teammate Gemma McHugh (23:01).

Aimee Felix rounded out the Lady Bruin top-5, helping earn Riverbank's berth to attack its final hurdle before the State Meet.

The Lady Bruins came in just behind TVL counterparts Hughson (fifth overall) and Escalon (sixth overall) in the sub-section meet format.

Both Riverbank programs will be looking to put it all together at Folsom High Nov. 15.

The varsity boys race will get under way at 1 p.m. followed by the varsity girls at 1:50 p.m.
