Despite their best efforts, the Riverbank Bruins girls basketball team's season-long drought in the Trans-Valley League win column continued through the season's end, as the Lady Bruins fell to the Escalon Cougars 54-45 on Tuesday, ending the team's most likely chance at posting a TVL victory.

The Lady Bruins fought just as they have all season, hanging with the Cougars over the first two periods of play. Riverbank walked into the halftime intermission chipping away at a two-point deficit, but could only watch as the one basket deficit ballooned to a nine-point loss after Escalon outscored the Lady Bruins 17-11 in the game's final period of play.

Riverbank was able to get solid scoring contributions from all over the court, including a game-high 10-point output from Vanessa Rodriguez. Teammate Jessica Hutson finished just behind Rodriguez with a nine-point night, while teammate Heather Medrano finished right behind her with an eight-point performance.

Lady Bruin team leader Irene Castillo handled the team's offense on her way to six points, while teammate Jenni Manriquez added the same total.

Riverbank played host to the TVL-leading Modesto Christian Crusaders for their final contest, and it was obvious that the Crusaders had no interest in spoiling their perfect TVL campaign.
