The Riverbank High Lady Bruins varsity basketball team cannot seem to get any breaks this season, dropping a pair of Trans-Valley League contests to fall to 0-4 in TVL action.
The Lady Bruins could not respond to a 16 point first quarter by the Ripon Indians, falling to their TVL foe 58-43 on Monday, Jan. 7. Riverbank was able to match the Indians over the final two periods of play, but held little chance to overcome their 15-point halftime deficit. Jennifer Manriquez paced the Lady Bruins with a 16-point performance, while teammate Tora Robinson chipped in with six in the loss.
Riverbank's woes continued during a 49-38 loss to the Escalon Cougars on Thursday, Jan. 10. The Lady Bruins held a one-point advantage coming out of halftime, but watched as it vanished behind a 20-point outburst from the Cougars in the pivotal third quarter. Riverbank could only muster 11 points in the third period, leaving the Lady Bruins trailing by nearly double-digits heading into the final period.
Manriquez kept the hot hand for Riverbank, scoring a team-high 14 points in the win. Irene Castillo finished in double-digits with 11, while teammates Vanessa Rodriguez and Jaylene Thomas ended with seven and six points, respectively.
Riverbank will look to earn their first TVL victory when they take a trip to Hughson to take on the Huskies at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17.
