A 1-1 tie against Ripon following a 3-0 win over Ripon Christian has Riverbank High School soccer coach Roger Nelson convinced his girls are on the road to success.

"The team was struggling until this last game. But they really came together against Ripon," he said. "We played together as a team. We should do well from now on."

Ripon was unbeaten with a 4-0 league record coming into the game, he said. But Riverbank forced them to a tie, and they now have a 1-3-1 record in league.

In Thursday's home game against Ripon, the Riverbank high scorer was Tiffany Banda, who found her opponent's net off a pass from Lydia Frederick within the first 16 minutes.

Ripon scored an equalizer, again off an assist in the 26th minute, and the score remained there.

Raquel Anguiano made 13 saves for Riverbank in goal, and the Ripon goalie deflected eight shots.

In the previous game against Ripon Christian on April 5, Banda scored two goals and Courtney Nelson, a third to hand Riverbank the win.

Banda got on the scoreboard off a crossover pass from Liz Lopez just three minutes into the game. Nelson drilled a shot into the RC net at the 25-minute mark with an assist frorm Erica Galvan. Banda scored again in the middle of the second half with a breakaway on her own.

"We controlled the ball most of the game," said Nelson.

Bruin goalie Anguiano was credited with 13 saves, and the two RC goalkeepers with 15 saves between them.

This week, the Bruins took to the road against Hilmar on Tuesday, and are scheduled to play Patterson at home on Thursday.
