Soggy Soccer Headlines Girls Home Matches

Riverbank High School sports teams were busy on the home courts and fields this past week, with the girls soccer team hosting three home matches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The first two were played in the rain while the third was on a muddy field. The result was wet and muddy conditions for all three. Also in action were the Bruin boys soccer team and both girls and boys basketball.

 

Lady Bruins Soccer

Girls soccer started the week under rainy skies at home on Monday, Jan. 14, against Hilmar’s Lady Yellowjackets, falling 5-0. On Wednesday, the rain returned, with Riverbank hosting arch rival Escalon, where they took a 7-0 loss to the Lady Cougars.

In the Friday, Jan. 18 match, there was no rain, but the field was wet, so the effect was the same, and Riverbank fell to Livingston. All were Trans-Valley League matches.

The Riverbank girls next host Ripon High School on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in their last home game of the season.

 

Bruin Varsity Basketball

Riverbank boys were on the road to take on the Knights at Ripon Christian High School on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and came home with a close 60-54 loss in TVL action.

On Friday, the Bruins hosted Livingston’s Wolves, handing them a 73-44 Trans-Valley League defeat. They were scheduled to play on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in Hilmar after The News went to press.

They’ll host the Homecoming Game on Friday, Jan. 25, welcoming Escalon’s Cougars to the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium. Only two of their final four games will be played at home, including Senior Night on Tuesday, Feb. 5, hosting Ripon Christian.

 

Bruin Soccer

The Riverbank boys varsity soccer team had three matches on the road last week, dropping two of three TVL contests.

On Monday, Jan. 14, it was a 5-0 loss to Hilmar’s Yellowjackets. On Jan. 16, they fought to a 3-3 tie in the rain on a muddy field at Escalon, and last Friday, they dropped a 2-0 loss in Livingston.

The Bruins were set to host Hughson’s Huskies on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

 

Lady Bruins Basketball

The Lady Bruins varsity girls basketball team hosted the Lady Knights of Ripon Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 15, dropping a 51-21 TVL loss. On Thursday, they traveled to Livingston, falling 64-21 to the Lady Wolves.

The girls were to host Hilmar on Tuesday, and travel to Escalon for a Thursday game, Jan. 24.

 

There are just a few home games left in the 2018-19 winter schedules, with most squads set to finish league play by Thursday, Feb. 7.
