Clinics At Columbia College

Columbia College Offers Summer Volleyball Clinics

Columbia College in Sonora will offer volleyball for children during the summer months on the Columbia College campus.

A bantam volleyball clinic for grades 4-6 will begin July 19 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and an intermediate volleyball clinic for grades 7-9 will be begin on July 26 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An advanced volleyball clinic for grades 9-12 will also start on Aug. 2 from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Each clinic is four days, Monday through Thursday, on campus in Oak Pavilion. Class fees are $50 for the Bantam clinic, and $100 each for the Intermediate and Advanced clinics. Students will learn the fundamentals of volleyball from the Columbia College coaching staff and players in these four-day clinics.

Activities in the clinics include instruction and practice in basic volleyball skills (passing, serving, setting, and spiking) and team play. The Intermediate clinic will also work on intermediate drills, team systems, and game play. The advanced clinic will also focus on competitive game play. Interested parents may register their children in person in the Columbia College Community Education office or by mail or fax. Mail registration forms, mandatory parental permission slips for children under 18, and detailed class information are included in the Community Education Summer Class Schedule available at local libraries and businesses, or may be requested from the Community Education Office at 588-5144.



All-Comers Track Meet

Slated July 14-28

The City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department and American Legion Post 74 will host the 2004 Modesto All-Comers Track Meet on Wednesday July 14, 21 and 28. The meet will be at the Modesto Junior College track, located at Tully and Coldwell Avenues in Modesto.

Registration will begin at 6 p.m. at the track. Field events will begin at 6:30 p.m., and running events will begin at 7:15 p.m. Events include the softball throw, running long jump, 50, 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes, 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs, and the 4x100 meter relay. Maximum spike length for shoes is 1/4 inch. Entry fees are as follows: 50 cents per event for boys and girls ages 9-12 years old, 13-14 years old and 15-17 years old, and $1 per event for men and women 18-40 years old and over 40 years old (Masters).
