The start of the 2021-22 school year brings with it the resumption of practices, and soon league play, for fall sports at Riverbank High School and the rest of the Trans-Valley League.

Though football practice began a couple of weeks ago, girls volleyball workouts started on the first day of classes, Thursday, Aug. 5. They’re set to begin scrimmaging soon, with league play starting on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Lady Bruins play their first Trans-Valley League volleyball match on the road, but return home on Thursday, Sept. 9.

Varsity volleyball coach John Bartlett said he’s expecting to have as many as 12 seniors on his roster this year.

Co-ed cross country squads and girls golf were set to begin practices this week, on Monday, Aug. 9. There will be two TVL meets for the co-ed runners, on Sept. 1 and Sept. 29, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

The finals are also in Ceres, on Oct. 27, set to start at 3 p.m.

The golfers begin their league play at home on Tuesday, Aug. 24, while cross country can have its first scrimmage on Aug. 13.

Lady Bruin golfers start league action on Tuesday, Aug. 24, with a home match in Escalon. The year-end match will be on Oct. 18, in Manteca.

Looking ahead, in the upcoming winter sports schedule, boys and girls soccer matches begin in the middle of December while basketball for both boys and girls begins in the new year, first week of January.
