Looking for a way you can give back to the community and help one of your local California State Parks at the same time? Become a Columbia State Historic Park volunteer. Columbia SHP is now recruiting volunteers for the museum information center in the middle of town and to portray an 1861 “teacher” at the historic School House.
Trainings will be held for each of these volunteer roles. You can choose the role for which you’d like to volunteer — or participate in both. The Museum is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas. The School House lessons are Mondays through Thursdays during the school year. Once your training is complete you can choose the days and hours when you will be available to volunteer.
After turning in your application, Park staff will contact you regarding orientations and training. Orientation for Teachers in the historic School House is on Friday, Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to noon. Orientation for Museum volunteers is on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. Further opportunities to observe and practice will be arranged on an individual basis.
Columbia SHP is now accepting applications from interested individuals. Call State Park Interpreter Leslie Minium at (209) 532-7386 or stop in at the museum on the corner of State and Main streets in Columbia to pick up an application.
