Scott Pettit was honored as co-Citizen of the Year on Wednesday at a ceremony arranged by Man of the Year/Citizen of the Year club member Joe Galindo, who presided at January's Community Awards Banquet.

Norma Torres-Manriquez, who was announced as Citizen of the Year at that banquet, and other members of the MOY/COY Club plus Pettit's friends and relatives attended the hour-long reception held in the school district boardroom.

Pettit came to the podium to receive a plaque from Galindo and made a short speech of acceptance saying he hoped his example of community service would encourage others to do likewise.

Galindo explained that Pettit was tied with Torres-Manriquez for the 2007 Citizen of the Year award in the ballot of MOY/COY Club members. Two plaques were prepared but Pettit's went missing at the banquet so Galindo decided on the spur of a moment not to announce him, waiting until the missing plaque was located.

Once found, Galindo said he wanted to correct the error, giving Pettit the recognition he deserved and publicly naming him as a 2007 Citizen of the Year along with Torres-Manriquez.

Both award winners were informed of the error within a week after the banquet but it had taken this long to arrange a corrective occasion, Galindo added.
