Offering fruit, vegetables and flowers plus great food like barbecued ribs, the city's annual Farmers Market will start today, Wednesday, May 27 at Riverbank Community Center Park. Hours for the weekly market this year are from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The market will run every Wednesday at this time throughout the summer and each week will feature not only the farm fresh produce but also comes complete with some kind of live entertainment. During the summer there will also be additional fun events timed to run in conjunction with the Farmers Market, including the popular 'Favorite Rides' car show, set for June 24.

Also, Riverbank's annual Relay for Life is set to run from 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 to 8 a.m. Sunday, May 31 at the Riverbank High football stadium as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Teams circle the track and at least one person from each team is on the track at all times during the event. Participants can walk, jog, skip, run, any kind of way they want to get around the track, as they raise money for cancer research and patient support services, outreach and education.

Even those that didn't sign up to be on a team are welcome to attend the Relay for Life. There will be a variety of entertainment and teams typically set up fundraising booths with various items for sale. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
