Arrest Made In Riverbank Case

An investigation that started in early September has resulted in the arrest of a Riverbank man on charges of lewd acts with a child.

Police reported that on Sept. 2, a father filed a report after finding nude photographs of a male on his daughter’s cell phone. The 14-year-old victim received photographs from a man that was identified as 28-year-old Matthew Hughes.

The suspect and victim reportedly had a relationship for several months in Riverbank. The suspect sent the victim nude photographs and videos of himself through Facebook, police said.

Hughes was located working in the Newman area and was transported to the Riverbank Substation on Oct. 8, where he was interviewed and arrested after admitting to his role in the case.

Hughes was transported to the downtown jail in Modesto and booked for lewd acts with a child and sending harmful matter with intent to seduce a minor. He was held originally held on $50,000 bail, and was released after posting bond on Oct. 11.

Further court action is pending.
