The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 26 through Monday, Aug. 1. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 1
MST units were sent to assist as part of the statewide master mutual aid to the McKinney Fire in the Klamath National Forest. MST sent three units and two Battalion Chiefs as strike team leaders. The McKinney fire is over 56,000 acres and is located near the town of Yreka.
SUNDAY, JULY 31
7:20 p.m. – Q22 was dispatched to the report of a vegetation fire at the Santa Fe bridge. BC2 attached, Q22 arrived and requested B23/W23 and G21 due to its location. Q22 was able to walk in on foot. The fire was approximately one-quarter mile west of the bridge in heavy vegetation along the river bottom. B1, G3 and Hughson W39 were added. The fire was contained in 40 minutes, which consumed one acre. Mop up took a total of two additional hours.
FRIDAY, JULY 29
No time listed – Engine 27 responded for the report of a truck on fire (Crane Road). On scene a well involved vehicle was found. Engine 27 extinguished.
No times listed – Engine 27, 28, 29, Stanislaus Quint 22, and Battalion 5 responded for the report of a head on collision in the Oakdale fire protection district (26-Mile Road). On scene crews located the drivers of both vehicles pinned in with major damage to both vehicles. It was determined both drivers were deceased. Engine 28 and Quint 22 assisted CHP and Sheriff’s Office personnel on scene.
THURSDAY, JULY 28
8:13 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 were dispatched to the 9000 block of Mountain Oak Road for a drowning in Station 28’s Fire Management Area. Upon arrival crews located a patient that had been removed from a swimming pool with CPR in progress from bystanders. After 40 minutes of life saving efforts, the patient was declared deceased by a local emergency room physician.
10:26 p.m. – Modesto Engines 7, 9, 27, 28, Stanislaus Engine 23, Quint 22, BC2, BC5, and FIU responded to a report of a residential working structure fire in the 900 block of Silver Spur Circle in Station 27’s Fire Management Area. Upon arrival Engine 27 located a battery powered vacuum cleaner and its charging station on fire in the garage of the residence. The fire was quickly extinguished with no fire extension. FIU is investigating.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 27
MST Training Division conducted a promotional exam for prospective fire engineers.
2:51 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass/WT 27, Grass 29, Grass 26, Brush/WT 23 and BC5 responded to a vegetation fire in the 11000 block of Pioneer Avenue. Brush 28 arrived to find a quarter of an acre of grass involved with a moderate rate of spread. Crews contained the fire at 2.6 acres and remained on scene for over four hours completing extensive overhaul.
11:14 p.m. – E23 and Q22 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Yosemite Boulevard and Albers Road. E23 arrived and reported a two-vehicle collision with one vehicle overturned. The overturned vehicle was unoccupied; however, the second vehicle was occupied by two older adults and both were pinned in the vehicle. E21 was requested as well as a third ground ambulance. Both patients were extricated in less than 30 minutes and taken to local hospitals. CHP is investigating the accident.
TUESDAY, JULY 26
12:27 p.m. – Engine 28, Grass/WT 27, Grass 29, Brush/WT 23 and BC5 responded to a reported vegetation fire in the 8000 block of Rodden Road. BC5 arrived to find one-acre of grass burning with a moderate rate of spread. Crews contained the fire to 3.54 acres and remained on scene for several hours completing overhaul. The fire cause is under investigation.
