A court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 2 for a Riverbank man charged with attempted murder.

Riverbank Police Services deputies responded to a reported fight in the 2600 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Riverbank on Wednesday, July 17, which also included a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival at the scene, police said the victim told officers that he and the suspect, identified as Daniel Saldivar, 24, from Riverbank, had a verbal argument and the suspect asked him if he gang-banged. The suspect then pulled out a handgun. The victim told him to put the gun away and talk to him like a man, according to the police report. It was then that the suspect fired a single round toward the victim, said police. No one was hit and the suspect was gone when deputies arrived on the scene. The case was investigated by Riverbank detectives and an attempted murder warrant was issued for Saldivar’s arrest.

On Thursday, July 25, deputies spotted Saldivar in a vehicle crossing the Atchison Street viaduct. They conducted a high risk felony car stop on the vehicle. As a result, Saldivar was taken into custody without further incident and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder. He also faces a count of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $550,000 and Saldivar remained in custody at press time for The News.
