Modesto Junior College will host the second New Student Day event for the year on Saturday, May 21 at 8 a.m. on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. Students will meet in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center. Attendance and campus parking are free.

New Student Day assists students who are just beginning the process of enrolling at MJC through application, orientation, assessment and advising workshops. Additional activities include hands-on assistance with the financial aid application, or follow-up steps, a parent information seminar and an opportunity to visit with MJC Faculty and learn of the many academic programs offered.

Counselors and student success specialists from MJC have been very active at high schools throughout the area assisting seniors with the process of completing the required steps to enroll at the college. This proactive effort allows them to qualify for a priority registration appointment and the ability to receive on-site assistance with registration on New Student Day. These students will be given the opportunity to enroll in First Time in College course (COLSK 100) which has been redesigned to provide a holistic approach to supporting the student’s transition into college. The course is transferrable and meets an MJC general education degree requirement.

Those new students not previously served at the high schools are encouraged to begin the enrollment process by submitting an online application prior to attending New Student Day. Applications can be found on MJC’s webpage at www.mjc.edu by clicking the orange “Apply Now” tab.

“In an effort to improve access and success, this event is for new students regardless of where they are in the process of enrolling at MJC. They will be guided towards the specific activities they need to complete their remaining enrollment steps and they can do so all in just one visit to the campus,” said Michelle Vidaurri, Interim Director of Access Retention and Support Services. “Students who have already completed the steps to enrollment at their high school locations should attend the May 21 event for assistance with summer or fall 2016 course registration.”
