It’s typically considered the most important thing about Homecoming – and Riverbank got it right.

The varsity football Bruins won their Friday night Mother Lode League contest against the visiting Bret Harte Bullfrogs, successfully capping a busy and festive Homecoming Week on the Riverbank High School campus. The final score was 21-14, as Riverbank came back from an early deficit to earn the hard-fought victory.

Also as part of the Friday night fun, seniors Alejandro Silva and Chanel Bravo were crowned as Homecoming King and Queen.

Throughout the week, there were lunchtime activities and a number of ways for students at the various grade levels to earn participation points.

“Spirit week winners were the sophomore class. There was an overall boost in morale and spirit, that carried over into the football game on Friday,” said English and Leadership teacher Janelle Luu. “Our royalty candidates were awesome and showed school spirit throughout the week.”

Also in the running for Homecoming King were Kareem Gheith, Damian Quintana, Victor Bermudez and Austynn Givargiznia; the other Queen hopefuls were Giselle Fernandez, Danitza Azpeitia, Layla Ventura and Pricila Yepez.

Activities also included the Homecoming Parade through downtown Riverbank on Friday after school, featuring a number of class floats, community groups, school clubs, musical groups and more.

At halftime of the varsity football game, the King and Queen candidates from the various class levels were introduced, along with their families. Bravo and Silva received their crowns on Friday night, while all the underclassmen royals were announced at a Saturday night Homecoming Dance. Receiving those crowns were juniors, Summer Mitre and Gabriel Sandoval; sophomores, Samantha Silva and Eder Ventura; freshmen, Yazmin Dominguez and Jonathan Perez.

Luu said overall, it was a fun and exciting week for all involved.

“The Homecoming parade was a success, with the community coming together to show Bruin Pride,” she said. “Our Art Club was able to paint the windows of our downtown businesses to enhance the school spirit.”
