Bruin Music Makers Selected For Festival

Two bandmates from Riverbank High School, Jenise Perryman and Angela Hosford, were selected to the Stanislaus County Honor Band and will be performing at the Stanislaus County Music Festival on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Modesto Junior College Auditorium at 7 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Perryman is a junior at RHS and will be the sixth chair trombone player. This will be her third year with the Stanislaus County Honor Band.

This is Hosford’s first year making the Honor Band. She is a senior at RHS and will be the seventh chair trumpet player.

“Both ladies worked on the audition music for several weeks before playing in front of a judge at the honor band auditions that were held in the CSU Stanislaus music department,” stated Riverbank High School Music Director Joseph Aguilar. “I’m very happy that both ladies auditioned and will get the opportunity to play with the best student musicians in the county.”

The festival will begin on Friday, Jan. 26 with the high school and junior high school Honor Choirs performing, starting at 7 p.m. Honor Orchestra entertains guests at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 which will include high school and junior high school students. The festival will conclude on Saturday evening with the high school and junior high school Honor Band performance.

Each year, outstanding guest conductors work with the honor band, choir and orchestra (students are recommended by their music teachers) to prepare for the performances. Students learn the music and rehearse together. This year’s guest conductors include: Molly Peters, Junior High Honor Choir; Angel M. Vasquez-Ramos, High School Honor Choir; John Lack, Junior High Honor Orchestra; Thomas Loewenheim, High School Honor Orchestra; Adam Wilke, Junior High Honor Band; and David Vickerman, High School Honor Band.

The Stanislaus County Office of Education, the Stanislaus County Music Educators Association and Gottschalk Music Centers co-sponsor this annual event. Along with the two students from Riverbank High, these local high schools are slated to participate: Beyer, Central Valley, Ceres, Davis, Downey, Enochs, Gregori, Hughson, Johansen, Modesto Christian, Modesto, Oakdale, Patterson, Pitman, Turlock Christian, Turlock, Valley Charter, Waterford, and Whitmore Charter.

Junior High/Middle Schools participating will be Blaker-Kinser Junior High, Cesar Chavez Junior High, Creekside Middle, Deniar Middle, Dutcher Middle, La Loma Junior High, Mark Twain Junior High, Modesto Christian, Prescott Junior High, Roosevelt Junior High, Ross Middle, Salida Middle, Savage Middle, Somerset Middle, Turlock Christian Junior High, Turlock Junior High, Ustach Middle and Walnut Grove.
