County Fairgrounds Opens As Storm Shelter

The American Red Cross will relocate its current shelter in Patterson to the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds Turf Club building on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. This move is being done to allow for more capacity, if needed as another storm approaches Stanislaus County.

This current weather system is forecasted to be followed by a short break Sunday. More rainfall is expected to return Monday, Feb. 20 and last through at least Tuesday. Saturated soils coupled with high winds could potentially result in toppled trees and power lines.

“The fairgrounds facility is here to help shelter anyone affected with the floods,” said Matt Cranford, chief executive office of the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. “We are working diligently with the Red Cross to assist our community and make sure residents have a place to shelter.”

To reach the fairgrounds Turf Club facility from Highway 99 take the Fulkerth exit; left on Fulkerth; then a right on Soderquist Road. The facility is located on the left side of Soderquist.

The Stanislaus County Office of Emergency Services Public Information Line is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; call 209-552-3899 or 1-877-216-5702.
