Galaxy IMAX Signage Set For City Approval
2297 Galaxy Theatre-

Following a favorable recommendation by the Riverbank Planning Commission last week, Galaxy Luxury+ Theatres was set to be allowed to build a larger sign than the city’s building code allowed for its new IMAX addition.

The theatre complex at 2525 Patterson Road expects to open its new screen the weekend of March 25 if permission is granted.

Last week, Galaxy representatives appeared before the commission on Monday, Feb. 29, in a special session to hear their request for a variance of the sign ordinance.

The commission recommended the city council grant the variance and the council was to consider the matter at its meeting last night, March 8, after The News went to press.

If approved, the sign will be 10 feet high and more than 50 feet long. The ‘I’ in IMAX will be three feet, two inches wide.

The problem arose when contractors built the mounting and power connections for a larger sign than plans called for.
